With major snowfall in the area, OPP East Region is warning drivers to be prepared for deteriorating driving conditions today.

Acting Inspector and OPP Manager of Traffic programs Marc Hemmerick says if you are driving at all today, even to and from work, you should be adjusting your driving. He says the posted speed limit is for ideal conditions, and urges drivers to go slow and yourself give extra time to get to your destination. He says to keep your full lighting system on and to clear snow from all windows and lights. Hemmerick says that with today’s forecast, be prepared to clear off your car more than once a trip. He also says to keep your fuel tank full and have an emergency travel kit. This should include food, a blanket, candle and extra cell phone power in case you are stuck.  Hemmerick also reminds people that 911 is for emergencies only and not about road conditions.

He says to learn about road conditions, visit the Ministry of Transportation’s traveller information site. Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for most of Southern Ontario, including Renfrew County. Warnings stretch from here to Southern Quebec and most of New Brunswick.
