The Golden Lake Community Group has said they cannot perform the events on their 2020 calendar.
They say this is due to North Algona Wilberforce Township eliminating their in kind facility use donation. The Community Group says that the township has given it a three hundred dollar cash donation that can go towards renting out the community centre in Golden Lake. The Group says that this will only cover the rentals for 5 events at the community centre.
The Group says that because of this, the group can no longer put on its events for free. They say that as a result of this, they cannot put on events such as their guest speakers, paddle events, family fishing day and more. The group says that they will also not be able to assist with the upkeep of the gardens surrounding the community centre. They say taking on additional fundraising opportunities is not an option, as it would have a negative effect on residents, businesses and their volunteers.
The group says they are reviewing their options and will make a decision on how to proceed in the coming days.
