Renfrew Nipissing Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski had some strong words for teacher unions.

In a press release, he said it was unacceptable that union leaders would ramp up strike action, which he says makes families scramble to find childcare. He said that the provincial government recognises the impact the strike had on families, whom he says unions are expecting to bear the cost of their labour actions.

The MPP says that the government is launching the Support for Parents initiative that he says puts money directly into the pockets of parents. He says since Monday, almost 150 thousand applications were received by the government. He says that the uptake the Support of Parents initiative shows the level of uncertainty the union-led strike causes.

The MPP says the government will continue to focus on reaching a voluntary agreement with the teachers unions, so that students can to return to classes. For more info on the initiative, click here.
