Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski is promoting his new forest sector strategy.

The MPP made the comments in a newsletter last week. He says that with demand for wood growing by 30 percent by 2030, he believes Renfrew County will need to make sure it is in a position to deliver those products. But he also says that the forest industry has struggled over the last 15 years due to what he says is restrictive government policy. He says with this new forest strategy stands on four main pillars: stewardship and sustainability, putting more wood to work, improving cost competitiveness, and fostering innovation, markets and talent. He reminds residents that well managed forests are healthy forests, and harvest conducted in a sustainable way is a major component of forest management. He also says that properly managed and diverse forests are also more resistant to forest fires.

He says the new plan will help make a difference in the lives of those in Renfrew County who depend on the forest sector.  He says he plans to hold seven round tables with stakeholders, municipal and indigenous leaders to help fine tune the plan. He urges the public to give input on the plan going forward. The MPP also praised extra healthcare funding released by the province, and wished the constituents of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke
