Ontario allowing easier road access for off-road vehicles

Off-road riders will have a much easier time getting to trails this winter thanks to looser regulations from the province.

The Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney announced a plan on Friday to give off-road vehicles better access to roadways. “We know that municipalities are in the best position to decide how these types of off-road vehicles can be safely mixed into their communities,” she says. “This is another example of how our government wants to get out of the way and support local decision making to further encourage tourism and economic prosperity.”

The decision was made as part of the province’s plans to reduce red tape and support businesses.

The government said looser regulations should benefit rural communities the most. That is because riders will be able to connect to more trail networks and attractions.

In Bancroft, a by-law was passed in 2015 that allows four-wheelers to drive on roads in the town.

The provincial government says this is one of over 80 proposed actions that will make life easier for businesses and residents of Ontario.
