The road closures in Pembroke are taking their toll on drivers.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP in Pembroke are reminding motorists to obey the rules of the road and exercise patience. It comes after a number of roads are being worked on at the tail end of construction season. Roads like McKay, Mary and River Road remained closed due to construction, causing many delays. OPP say they have gotten reports of impatient drivers cutting others off, speeding and aggressive driving and say that this is directly in relation to construction work.
OPP are reminding motorists to obey the rules of the road and exercise patience. Drivers are reminded the importance of safety in a construction zone. This includes reducing speeds when entering zones and obeying all road closures. They also advise drivers to proceed with caution when entering construction zones, and obey all road warning signs. The detachment says that is is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act to disobey stop or slow signs displayed by a traffic controller. They also say lower speeds are posted in construction zone to ensure the safety of both road worker and driver.
The city of Pembroke says these roads will not reopen until mid-to-late November.
