The anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait was recognized at a ceremony at Garrison Petawawa.
It’s been 25 years since the cease fire was ordered that ended the Gulf War after Saddam Hussein withdrew troops from Kuwait.
While the ceremony was brief, it showcased some of the milestones that the Canadian military experienced in the war.
It was the first war the country had been a part of since the Korean War in the 50s.
Also, it was the first time women were deployed into a war zone to act in combat roles.
Called Operation Friction at the time, it saw as many as 4,500 Canadian troops in Iraq at its height.
