Incumbent Cheryl Gallant says she deserves another shot at being the MP of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.

The Conservative MP says she cares deeply about the people of riding, and has accomplished solving many problems. She says she has always been Valley’s voice in Ottawa and not the other way around. She says she thinks she is best suited to continue to bring the riding’s concerns to parliament. She says she will never compromise the values of the riding for short term gain, no matter how opponents decide to characterise her. Above all, she says she puts the interests of the people first.

Gallant’s says her platform includes a lot of tax cuts and credits. Gallant in particular took aim at the carbon tax, which she says increases the cost of living for those pumping gas and heating their homes. On home heating, she says the Conservatives will eliminate the GST on heating bills, and get rid of the carbon tax altogether at the pumps. She says the tax caused the cost of transporting goods to go up, while wages have not. To this, Gallant says that she and the Conservatives plan on increasing income by taxing it less. She says with her universal tax cut, the lowest brackets will be reduced so that regular people can keep more money in their pockets. She says she plants to provide seniors with an extra $1000 via the old age credit, allowing seniors to pay less taxes and not have to wait for a refund. For families she says she wants to reintroduce the art learning and fitness tax credits. She also wants to increase the federal contribution to the registered education savings plan from 20% to 30% so that more students can attend post secondary education.

In terms of climate change, Gallant says the Conservatives have a real plan to protect the environment, rather than what she calls a tax plan. She says she believes in technology instead of taxes, which she says can create more jobs through tech growth while lowering the country’s carbon footprint. She also says the Conservatives will offer a green home tax credit to help people pay for green renovation on their homes. She says a Conservative government will reinforce protection against pests and invasive species, reinstate funding to wetland watershed and fishery conservation, and stop polluters from dumping wastewater into streams. She says the conservatives will also reduce plastic waste by harmonising recycling across the country.
