Bear Hunt Coming Back To Bancroft

This spring, Bancroft residents will once again be able to hunt black bears.
This comes as the provincial government has announced its spring bear hunting pilot would be expanded until 2020, and will include 88 wildlife units.
The goal of the project is to assess human-bear conflict, and to support economic growth and tourism.
This means non-residents will be allowed to take part in the hunt.
In most cases, each licensed hunter will only be allowed to hunt one bear in each calendar year.
Senior Media Relation officer with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Jolanta Kowalski says, there are still regulations about the bears you are allowed to hunt.

Kowalski says there are also regulations in place around baiting to help address any public safety issues.
The spring bear hunt was banned in 1999, making this the first time in 17 years the season will be active again in Bancroft.
