Renfrew OPP Warns Against Pocket Dialing 911

Renfrew OPP has said there has been an increase in accidental or unnecessary 911 calls.

They have said that during the past week they have received 28 calls that were pocket dials or weren’t emergency calls. This was out of a total of 305 calls according to the force. OPP says that all calls, even pocket dials, must be investigated, which uses police resources. They say this slows police response rates and risks the safety of people who may need urgent help.

OPP would like to remind residents that 911 should only be used to report a life threatening emergency or crime in progress. For all other matters related to police, the force asks you to contact the station. For weather conditions they ask you to call Environment Canada and for road conditions and closures, call 5-1-1.
