Hastings Highlands Daytime Burn Ban is Still on Until End of October

With the warm, sometimes dry weather of summer past us, some may think the daytime burn ban is over, but that isn’t the case.

The ban will last until the end of October. No burning will be allowed between 7 AM and 7 PM until November 1st.

“Open-air burning, especially if left unattended, can become very difficult to control and can result in a serious widespread fire,” explains Hastings Highlands Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Officer Dwayne Meharrie. Even though the temperature is colder now, the risk of a fire getting out of control remains.

You are allowed to burn so long as the fire is no bigger than 60 centimeters in diameter. In that case, you need to make sure you have water nearby and have hand tools available to help control the fire.
