Five Blooms Awarded to Madawaska Valley Township

Communities in Bloom have awarded the Madawaska Valley with five blooms again this year.

The township received special mention at the International Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The township competed in the population category of 2500-7500 people.

In their evaluation, judges Evelyn Alemanni and Lucy Chang gave special mention to green engagement of youths. They praised the Girl Guides for rejuvenating several gardens in the area. One of the gardens, Butterfly Garden, played host to the Madawaska Hospice Palliative Care Butterfly Release. CiB also praised the gardens proximity to the Stafford Street Apartments, saying that the displays were “invigorating”

Communities in Bloom is a not for profit organisation that wishes to foster civic pride and an enhancement of green spaces. The volunteer judges mark on the criteria of tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape and floral displays. To earn 5 blooms, a town has to score 82% or over in these evaluations.

The top ranked town in the 2500-7500 category was Merrickville-Wolford. They were award a bronze ranking, meaning their score fell between 84 and 87% of the criteria.
