A local LCBO has been recognized for its charity.
The LCBO in Whitney, while not raising a record number of dollars, has had the highest transaction percentage of any store in the region in a funding drive the United Way. The transaction percentage, which is the amount of sales that result in a charity donation, was over 40%. The Region Director Richard Waterson says that is a very high total. Not only did it beat out the other stores in the district, but had the highest rate across the province. The funding drive raised $4600 in two weeks. Manager Kelli Nicholas says that it all boils down to those she worked with. Her staff asked every single customer. She said that as soon as locals heard the money stays local, they were very willingly donate. As a result of their fundraising breaking records, region director Richard Waterson agreed to let local kids drench him with water.
The funds will go to United Way, which goes directly into the Game On program in Whitney. The helps kids develop social skills, and is about making friends, engaging with people in a positive way and supports healthy eating. The after-school program is open to Grades 3 to 8 once a week. 20 or so kids take part in the program every session.
