OPP Urging Drivers Remember Rules Around Powered-Down Traffic Lights

Upper Ottawa Valley OPP is reminding drivers of the protocol behind flashing lights.

The force says some intersections went into a flash cycle in Pembroke on Wednesday Morning. OPP is urging drivers to come to a complete stop and only proceed through the intersection when it is safe to do so. They say that when drivers encounter yellow flashing lights, they must drive with caution when they approach.

OPP says that a driver may encounter blank lights during a loss in power. Drivers must yield the right of way to vehicles in the intersection. The force also says that they must also yield to cars entering the intersection on the right. They say the drivers must exercise caution and treat the intersection like an all-way stop.
