Hastings Highlands Public Library’s “Little Library” Program Expanding

Hastings Highlands Public Library started their “little library program” in May and are now looking to expand it.

Chair of the Hastings Highlands Public Library Board Ann Coleman says their only location currently at the Baptiste Lake Marina.

She says they have gotten a lot of positive feedback on the initiative, which is why they are eager to expand it within Hastings Highlands and Bancroft. One location that has potential is near Maynooth Public School. Coleman says that there are a few other spots in the area that they are looking at as well.

“I was first attracted to it in Maddison, Wisconsin and it was very popular there,” she says. When walking around the area she saw one at a popular mall with a picture of Dr. Seuss on the side. Coleman says the kitchen cupboard sized libraries can go anywhere – even on your lawn. The little libraries usually fit 20 to 30 books.

“The idea is you bring a book or books you’re finished and then you can take one from the library,” she explains.

The library is open to suggestions for new locations. You can call them with your idea at 613-338-2262 or visit them in-person.
