Federal Government Pitching In on Paugh Lake Road Resurfacing

The Federal Government has agreed to fund the last chunk needed for Paugh Lake Road’s resurfacing.

Renfrew-Nippising-Pembroke MP Cheryl Gallant was in Barry’s Bay to make the announcement. That means all three levels of government will help fund the 11.6 kilometers of road resurfacing. Madawaska Valley Township says that means the project can be completed by next year. The total cost of the resurfacing will be $2.7 Million.

The township stressed the importance of Paugh Lake Road as an emergency route. The township says that it serves as a connector between Highway 62 and 17. They say the government providing this funding will allow the township to fund other infrastructure projects. The new construction will also see new culverts put in, that will allow for water to not cover the road should there be flooding in the future.

Gallant praised the forsight of council and the work put in by the Township. The MP said that of the 10 projects approved by the feds in Ontario, 5 of them were in Eastern Ontario. She said it showed the strength of the proposal. Renfrew-Nippising-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski announced the provincial part of the road funding earlier this summer.

The township says the first step will be to install culverts within the coming months. They say tenders for construction will be going out as soon as possible.
