The body of a child has been found in the Petawawa River.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP say they got the call around 7:15 PM on Sunday. The body of a seven year old boy was found floating in the river near Summit Trail in the Town of Petawawa. Police say their investigation found that Mason Ryan from Petawawa had slipped and fallen into the river while walking along it. A friend who was with the child ran to get help.
The body was spotted by an adult in the area. The adult brought the body to shore and performed CPR. Renfrew County Paramedics arrived and transported the child to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. According to the OPP, a post mortem has been scheduled to confirm the cause of death, which is suspected to be drowning.
Foul play is not suspected in the victim’s death.
