Madawaska Valley Fire Ban Set Back to Level 2

A spat of dry weather has sent the fire ban in the Madawaska Valley back to its highest level.

The Madawaska Valley Fire Department issued the ban after an increase in calls over the weekend. The department says campfires are not permitted at any time. Charcoal and wood burning barbecues cannot be used, although gas, propane and naphtha barbecues and stoves are allowed during the ban. There are also restrictions on smoking in public and the use of fireworks. The ban is effective immediately.

A level 2 fire ban had been issued earlier this summer but was later reduced after a prolonged period of rain. During that ban the Madawaska Valley Fire Department fought a blaze near Combermere caused by a discarded cigarette.
