North Algona/Wilberforce Mayor Looking to Ease Highway 60 Congestion

The village of Golden Lake is looking to alleviate traffic at a busy intersection.

James Brose Mayor of North Algona/Wilberforce says he’s looking at the possibility of a 4 way stop at the intersection of Highway 60 and Dore Lake Road. The Mayor has looked into the possibility with Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation. However, the MTO has told the mayor that the intersection does not need a four way stop based on the data. Brose says that the MTO has  done some traffic counts, looked at the design of intersection and its history with accidents. They say there is nothing to indicate there needs to be a four way stop.

But the mayor disputes that claim. He says some motorists wait 20 to 30 minutes in the intersection in order to cross when coming out of the Pikwakanagan reservation. Brose says he has been in talks with Renfrew County, as it is their road intersecting a provincial highway. He says there are new opportunities to talk with the MTO again, as some culvert replacements between Killaloe and Eganville are planned in the near future.
