The Kashubian Griffins Women’s Hockey Team is hoping to create closer ties with the Kashubian Homeland.

General Manager Summer Norlock says the team hopes to go to Lëpusz township in Kashubia, Europe in spring of 2020. They are getting the chance to play hockey and learn more about the Kashubian culture. The team is mostly made up of students or those who have just graduated, and will be visiting schools hoping to gain interest for an exchange program. Norlock says the goal is to bridge communities in both Lëpusz and Barry’s Bay.

Norlock says there will also be an opportunity to meet with potential family members. She says members of the team will be meeting people with the same last names, and explore family connections. Norlock plans is to meet those people, get to know each them, and hopefully gain interest in sending a summer student to stay with a family. She says after that is done, a student from Kashubia would come to stay here in Barry’s Bay. Norfolk says the goal of the trip is education, and adds that there is a lot to learn about the culture.

The Team’s first fundraiser will be the Kashubian Flagstick Golf Tournament being held at The Homestead at Wolf Ridge August 18th.
