Assault of Petawawa Soldier Being Investigated

An assault on a soldier by another Canadian Forces Soldier is being investigated, according to CFB Petawawa.

The incident happened June 18th in Kaiserslautern, Germany. CFB Petawawa say the man from the 3rd Battalion was allegedly assaulted by another member of the Canadian Armed Forces. The soldier was taken to a local hospital before being transported to Canada. Petawawa says the member’s chain of command has been kept updated on the condition of the solider. They have since returned to active duty. The Canadian Forces Military Police are investigating the circumstances around the incident.

The soldier was part of Operation Swift Response, a NATO-led exercise taking place in Bulgaria. The operation took place from June 8th till the 27th. The 3rd Battalion was training there with the Royal Canadian Airforce. During the operation Bombardier Patrick Labrie of the 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery died of injuries he sustained during a training exercise. CFB Petawawa did not say if the incidents were related.
