Upper Ottawa OPP spent the August Long weekend making sure cars were locked.

The force brought their Lock It or Lose It campaign to Pembroke and Petawawa. They had previously been in surrounding areas as a part of their campaign to prevent theft of valuables in vehicles. Officers and auxiliary officers examine parked cars to make sure they are locked and no valuables are in view inside. A note is left on the car either congratulating the driver or informing them about what they neglected to do and how to prevent theft.

Over the course of the blitz, Police checked parking lots, marinas, recreational areas, and Pembroke’s downtown core. In all a total of 494 vehicles were checked, with 40 being found to be insecure. Electronics, purses, sunglasses and medication were seen in plain view in these vehicles.

OPP are urging people to not leave personal documents like vehicle deeds, pink slips, credit card invoices or other personal information in their unattended vehicles to prevent information theft. They also ask you to bring all valuables with you when you leave your car.
