Monday’s storm left extensive damage in parts of Deacon and Siberia Road.
A number of trees blew over during the storm, some of which landed on cottages and homes. Locals say the storm came from the south over Golden Lake. Witnesses said it lasted no longer than a minute. There were reports of high wind and very little visibility during the storm. Significant damage was reported around the Golden Lake United Church Camp, with some trees being completely uprooted and cottages crushed under their weight.
OPP says despite the damage, no injuries were reported in the storm. There were multiple calls for downed lines and obstruction of the road. Similar damage was reported on Siberia Road, but has been since cleaned up. No word on when the damage in Deacon will be repaired.
