A total fire ban has been implemented in the Madawaska Valley, with Bonnechere Valley Township following close behind.
The Madawaska Valley Fire Department will not allow open fires of any kind. This includes a ban on lighting charcoal barbecues, fireworks and camp fires. No burn permits will be issued for the duration of the ban either.
Bonnechere Valley Fire Department also plans to implement a full fire ban on Monday morning. They ask campers over the weekend to use extreme caution with campfires, and have water nearby to douse the fire. They also remind citizens to make sure fires are completely put out.
Both townships cited extremely dry conditions as reasons to implement the ban.
