Upper Ottawa Valley OPP is partnering with Canadian Tire and Fishing Forever to teach kids the joys of fishing.

The annual Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday August 10. Kids will join local OPP officers from 9 am till noon at the Pembroke Marina Breakwater for a morning of fishing. The event is free for children 12 and under. The OPP say the catch-and-release derby will feature giveaways and prizes for the largest fish in each age category. Young anglers are to bring their own rods, reels and bait, and be accompanied by an adult.

Fishing Forever is a non-profit organization that funds worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects. It has many supporters, including Canadian Tire and the Ontario Provincial Police Association. Bob Izumi, the chair of the organization, says he loves to create opportunities for children and families to go fishing, and says its one of the best ways for parents to build a healthy relationship with their children.
