With Canada Day Long Weekend over, OPP has the numbers from their weekend blitz.

The force participated in a crack-down on dangerous and aggressive driving. The force laid 71 speeding charges over the 4 day period. They also laid 3 seatbelt charges and 24 moving violations under the Highway Traffic Act. One ATV Charge was also laid.

OPP said that while the blitz is over, they are still committed to keeping roads safe. They remind drivers to drive with caution and practice safe driving habits.

Speeding wasn’t the only thing that caught the attention of the police this weekend. OPP was called to an incident at Algonquin Street on Canada Day in South Algonquin Township. The OPP says a family dispute took place around 6 AM. A OPP say 33 year old male from South Algonquin Township was charged as a result of the investigation. He has been charged with aggravated assault and four counts of breach of probation. The accused was held pending a bail hearing in Pembroke.
