OPP Urges Drivers to Cut Back on Noise

OPP is reminding motorists that you can be charged with causing unnecessary noise.

The force reminds drivers that mufflers must be equipped on any motor vehicle and motor assisted bicycles. They say cars must be maintained so they don’t make any undue noise or smoke. The OPP also says that cars cannot use a muffler cut-out, a straight exhaust, or any other by-pass or similar device.

Drivers that break this rule are at risk with being charged with Unnecessary Noise. If someone is in charge or control of a vehicle that makes excessive noise with their engine, horn or signaling device, they could be slapped with the charge.

Renfrew OPP said they have received numerous complaints of drivers accelerating at excessive speeds from stop signs. They remind motorists that this could also result in a charge of unnecessary noise.
