Renfrew Food Bank Feeling pressure on World Hunger Day

World Hunger Day may seem like a world away, but it is an issue in Renfrew County.
Doug Brookes, director of the Renfrew Food Bank, said the bank averaged 409 clients a month in 2018. That’s an increase from the 350 average in 2017 and the need is growing. While clients are not turned away on their second visit, Brookes says they only get the bare essentials. Normally the bank provides 2 days worth of emergency food.
That is not to say that the County hasn’t done its part. Brookes praised the area’s residents and said that while it’s an ongoing struggle to keep the shelves stocks, the community gets them through time and time again. Summer is the most difficult time of the year as that is when the most money is spent.
If you want to donate food, Brookes suggests dropping your donation of at the Renfrew Fire Hall. They are open 24/7 and have been a constant help collecting food since the bank opened. Donations can also be sent to  115 Veteran Memorial Blvd. in Renfrew .
