The OPP wants people to do their research before donating to a local flooding cause.

Although there have been no reports of it in the area, the OPP is raising awareness about scammers using local flooding as a ruse to take your money.

Under the circumstances, the OPP is suggesting that anyone looking to donate to those affected by the flooding do their research before giving. According to the detachment, you’re being encouraged to contact the food bank or a local community organization before giving material or money donations.

The OPP says if you think that you or someone you know might have been the victim of fraud, call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or report online.
