Learn valuable skills and get hired.

Every Tuesday in the month of May, Access Work ServiceĀ of Barry’s Bay will be offering free job search training workshops at Hastings Highlands Public Library.

Employment Specialist, Anitia Kennedy, says their goal is to make sure they can give residents the proper tools to find employment. She says that there is not a lot of help available between Barry’s Bay and Bancroft and they want to provide assistance for the community. She adds that we have a booming area, with many people coming here to retire, and that workers will be needed.

She says all of the workshops are free and anyone over the age of 16 is welcomed to attend. Kennedy, having 20 years of experience as an Employment Specialist, says that spring and fall are the best times to job search. “A lot of it is due to students being let out of school, in spring employers are ready to hire and there’s another boom in the fall when they go back to school” she says.

The workshops will touch on how to polish your resume and application, how to interview, and how to job search. When asked about the most important things to keep in mind when looking or interviewing for a job, she says “be honest, know what skills you have and be confident” she says “let them know what you can do for them and not what they can do for you”.

Workshops run every Tuesday of May from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Hastings Highlands Public Library in Maynooth. For more information on Access Work Service, click here.
