March break might force some drivers to march around for the next few days and break their piggy banks.

The Renfrew OPP says that 23 motorists were caught during March break’s Distracted Driving Campaign.

Renfrew OPP Constable Tina Hunt says that some drivers still don’t get the message. “It’s concerning that there were that many during the week that were driving distracted” she says.

Province-wide, the OPP laid a total of 1508 distracted driving charges to motorists who were holding or using a hand held device. There were also an additional 51 that were charged for other distracted driving reasons that divided their attention and made it unsafe for them to be on the road.

They say that as of January 1, 2019, the new penalties include a fine increase up to $1000, three demerit points and a three day license suspension.
