Diversity and culture was celebrated at Garrison Petawawa this week.
Charlene Chubbs, Civilian Coach for the Petawawa Diversity Employment Equity Advisory Group (PDEEAG) says that last Thursday the Department of National Defence (DND) hosted their third Culture and Diversity Festival at Dundonald Hall in Petawawa. She says that the festival is put on every two years and that the purpose is to demonstrate the DND’s strength in showing the importance of inclusion.
She says their goal was to bring in groups and speakers to celebrate the four diversity groups. Those groups are visible minorities, women, persons with disabilities and aboriginal persons. Chubbs says that Canada is a diverse nation but specifies that it was important that they represent different groups that are relevant in Renfrew County.
She says that they had a number of different people from the community take part and participate in diverse activities such as sitting volleyball, veil dancing and they even viewed a film on the pride flag presented by Renfrew County Pride. She adds that they also had various speakers from the DND’s command team talk on their experience as members of one of the four diversity groups.
