“He was the type of player you loved to have on your team but hated to play against.”
Those are the words from sports journalist and author Grant McCagg after the passing of Renfrew-born NHL Legend, Ted Lindsay. McCagg, who recently released his book “Valley Snapshots – Notable Hockey Players From the Upper Ottawa Valley”, had the chance to interview Lindsay back in 2001.
McCagg says he thought Lindsay would lose his temper with him but it ended up being a thrill. He says Lindsay was open-minded and respectful and was a true gentlemen.
Although Lindsay moved away from the region when he was five years old, he says that when you look in the back of Lindsay’s hockey cards, it says he was born in Renfrew so there’s lots to be proud of. McCagg adds that on the ice, Lindsay was one of the toughest players pound for pound and says that when the playoffs came, he was always came ready to play.
