Prepare to give yourself a pat on the back because tomorrow is National Employee Appreciation Day.
Derek Yuill, Chairman of the Barry’s Bay B.I.A and local business owner says that one of the keys to showing your employees you appreciate them is individual recognition. He adds that unlike big corporations, it’s essential to know everyone’s name and highlight individual accomplishments and birthdays. Yuill says that organizing events like ugly sweater day or costume day on Halloween always adds some fun to the work day.
Owner of Yuill’s Valu-Mart in Barry’s Bay, he says he always makes it a point to greet each employee in the morning and ask them how they are doing. He adds that employers and their staff kind of have a family bond so showing that you value them makes the relationship that much better.
At the end of the day, he says that having a healthy work environment pays off for everyone because customers notice that employees are happy which in return helps the business.
National Employee Appreciation Day is celebrated on the first Friday of March.
