A shoplifter got caught moments after the deed.

Constable Shawn Peever of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says a 26-year-old man is in custody after being caught shoplifting in a large retail store in Laurentian Valley Township on Wednesday.

Store staff called the authorities after the individual left the store on foot. Minutes later, police located the man and arrested him and the stolen goods were recovered. Peever says the man was also in possession of counterfeit American money. He says that investigators are now looking into the possibility of a connection between this case and the one involving counterfeit $100 American bills that were reported in Pembroke two weeks ago.

Peever says the man was charged with possession of counterfeit money, theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. He was held for bail hearing on February 21st which carried over to today.
