A three vehicle collision caused Highway 17 to shut down this morning around 8:00 in Renfrew. The popular highway was closed between Gillan Road and O’Brien for nearly two and a half hours.

Constable Tina Hunt of the Renfrew OPP says that one of the vehicles involved was a pick-up truck carrying 3 passengers. The OPP reported that the pick-up truck was driving westbound when it lost control and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. The truck ended up in the ditch while another vehicle collided with the previous eastbound vehicle.

Hunt says the driver and passengers of the truck were all transported to the hospital with the two rear-seat passengers suffering from serious injuries that are deemed non-life threatening. As for the two other drivers, one had minor injuries and the other had none.

She says that no charges will be laid and that the highway was reopened around 10:30 this morning.
