Killaloe Curling Club To Host Community Bonspiel

As of Saturday, friends, families and community members will be throwing rocks at each other. Well, more like sliding rocks at each other.

That’s because it’s the Annual Community Bonspiel Curling Tournament at the Killaloe Curling Club.

Corinne Higgins, one of the coordinators, says the tournament’s goal is to act as a stepping stone towards the sport. She says it gives people, who wouldn’t normally play regularly, the chance to be on a team and get their feet wet in the sport.

Higgins says that it’s a great opportunity for people to get out of the house during the winter and introduce them other community members they might not have met otherwise.

In terms of the age group, she says that the sport is for all ages. There’s no body contact so seniors have nothing to worry about and says you can even play with a stick (for players with bad knees).

She says 32 teams will face off at this year’s tournament playing 3 games each over the course of the week. The event starts this Saturday at the Killaloe Curling Club, everyone is welcomed to come watch. For more information, click here.
