Serious Collision Closes Highway 17 Between Chalk River and Deep River

Update -As of 4:00 PM on January 30, 2019: The OPP has released a statement saying that Highway 17 between Chalk River and Deep River has re-opened.

The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP has issued a release stating that there was a serious collision this morning which causes Highway 17 to be closed.

The statement reads:

“Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on scene at a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Laurentian Hills in the area of Miller Road. The collision occurred just after 8 a.m. and Highway 17 is currently closed in both directions between Deep River and Chalk River. Two involved persons have been transported to hospital by ambulance with one suffering from life-threatening injuries.

OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) members are assisting with the investigation.

Local detours are in place with westbound traffic being detoured at Main Street in Chalk River to Wylie Road and back to Highway 17. Eastbound traffic is being detoured at Wylie Road to Main Street and back to Highway 17. The detour is not suitable for large Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV). CMV’s choosing to detour will have do so through Algonquin Park. Motorists are advised to expect delays as the investigation continues.”
