RCJTC on Bus Cancellations

The priority is the safety of our kids.

Those are the words from Robert White, General Manager of the Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium (RCJTC) says that their priority is making sure kids are safe.

He says that RCJTC verify current and pending weather warnings every morning. The main factors that would cause a school bus cancellation is that of weather and road conditions. This week, he says that with the extreme cold warnings in effect, they didn’t want to put kids in harm’s way and risk having them get frostbite.

When it comes to cold weather, it’s not necessarily about the roads, but rather about the buses. He says that buses are made of metal and glass so they don’t warm up very well and if a bus should break down, the kids waiting for it as well as the ones inside could suffer from frostbite or other cold related health issues. At the end of the day, he says that making sure kids are safe is the number one priority.
