The Speaker Series is back at Algonquin College.

Jamie Bramburger, Manager of Student and Community Affairs at the Pembroke Campus says they’ve been offering spoken word conferences for 20 years. He adds that they’ve ensured to invite notable guests that would please anyone willing to drop in.

On Monday, journalist Gwynne Dyer will be there to talk about the populist movement (the movement that elected President Trump). On February 12th former CBC journalist Whit Fraser will be there to chat about his time in Northern Canada and will discuss indigenous issues and challenges. Conferences usually last 45 to 60 minutes and include a Q&A.

Bramburger points out that the age of the audience members varies drastically. “We have students that are 18 years of age and community members that are 70 years old” and says that everyone enjoys these conferences because, as he states, “there’s nothing more powerful than spoken word”. Bramburger says the college’s goal is to promote public education and that doesn’t only involve students, but also, the public.

The conferences will take place at the Waterfront Campus in Pembroke. Tickets are $16 in advance or $20 at the door. For more information, click here.
