A woman is safe and sound after a house fire erupted in Petawawa.

Constable Shawn Peever of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says that a fire broke out on Herman Street on Wednesday morning at approximately 11 o’clock.

He said that the fire was extinguished and the lone occupant that was in the house at the time of the fire did not sustain any injuries. He adds that the other occupants living there, who were absent at the time of the fire, were found by the police and were accounted for.

Peever also stated that the Ontario Fire Marshall has been notified and will be attending the scene to investigate.  The Crime Unit of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP is also investigating with the assistance of OPP’s Forensic Identification Services.

He says there was evidence that made officers believe the fire was of suspicious nature. Roads that were closed have been reopened. No charges have been laid and the investigation continues.
