Grant McCagg has released a book paying tribute to notable hockey players from the Upper Ottawa Valley.

McCagg, a part-time sports journalist, has been working on his book called “Valley Snapshots – Notable Hockey Players From the Upper Ottawa Valley” for the last four years. The idea of the book had been brewing in his head for over a decade and he tells us he finally decided to go through with it.

McCagg also states that with the Valley being said to be the birthplace of the NHA (National Hockey Association) and with Pembroke being known as hockey town, the sport plays a major role in the lives of its residents. He says that hockey is built into our fabric and that it’s important to highlight such a rich history.

McCagg adds that many players are featured in the book such as Ted Lindsay, Ray Sheppard and Frank Finnigan. He also mentioned Barry’s Bay native Larry Trader who had an inspiring path that started by playing in the community and made it to the NHL by the time he was 19 years old.

You can get the book at many stores in the area such as Metro and Lorraine’s Pharmasave in Barry’s Bay.
