Major Fire Causes Power Outage and Road Closure in Pembroke

The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP have released a statement about a major fire that broke out in Pembroke on Wednesday night. The fire broke out at a lumber yard and has caused a part of Boundary Road to close. Many residents also lost power due to the incident. Here is the full release, more information will be posted as the investigation continues.

“On January 2, 2019 at approximately 8pm members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fire at Lavern Heideman and Sons lumber yard on Boundary Road in the City of Pembroke. Employees at the lumber yard were able to safely evacuate and no injuries have been report as a result of the fire. A section of Boundary Road was closed between Paul Martin Drive and Bennett Street as firefighters from the Pembroke Fire Department battled the fire.  Hydro crews were also on scene and worked to restore power outages that were caused by the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The Ontario Fire Marshall has been notified and will be attending the scene to investigate. As a result of this incident Boundary Road is expected to remain closed until later in the day and local detours are in place.”
