Downtown Renfrew is Open

Construction in downtown Renfrew is completed.

Mike Asselin, Development and Works Director for the town of Renfrew says residents can now enjoy the six million dollar project.

He says sanitary sewers were realigned, pavement and sidewalks were redone and new light posts were installed.

He told us it was important for them to move the project along quickly to avoid hurting local businesses. Asselin said they worked closely with the Renfrew BIA and reported that some merchants lost anywhere from 8-30% in revenue due to the construction. Other notable impacts of the project were the detours. He says that Highway 60 runs through Renfrew and drivers were asked to roam around which caused a bit of frustration for some. Now that it’s done, he’s gotten a lot of positive feedback on the look and says residents appreciate the improvements and know they will be there for the next 40-60 years.

The town will be celebrating this Friday morning at 11 with an event called “Grand Opening of Downtown Renfrew” which will feature local MPP and Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry John Yakabuski.
