It’s red and black and is worn proudly.

Friday marks the start of the 2018 Poppy Campaign and the Barry’s Bay Legion Branch 406 are looking for your support. The 2018 Poppy Campaign chair for the region, Heather Poliquin, says that wearing a poppy is extremely important as it is a symbol of sacrifice. She says that Remembrance Day is the one time where we can further educate our youth on the history of those who have served and focus on the fallen. This year also marks the 100th year of the Armistice, which makes the campaign extremely special.

Poliquin informs us on how the funds from the 2018 Poppy Campaign will be used. She states that the money supports homeless veteran programs and it funds the local annual veteran’s dinner as well as the entrance ramp of the Barry’s Bay Legion. It doesn’t stop there. Bursaries are given out and the funds also help youth education (poster essay and poetry contest).

You can purchase your poppy at most local businesses in the Madawaska Valley. For more information on the National 2018 Poppy Campaign, click here.
