Kim Love’s Plan

After last weeks Q&A event and many hours of hard work and meet and greets, your Madawaska Valley municipal candidates have less than one week left to convince you. On Monday night, October 22, your vote will have been cast and our mayor and councillors will have been unofficially elected (it will be made official the following day). The MyBarrysBayNow.com news team had a chance to talk with all three mayoral candidates, Elser Lee Faith Archer, Kim Love and Andrey Kaminski to get some insight on their plans, should they get elected (or re-elected in the case of present mayor, Kim Love).

When asked about the changes she would like to see, present mayor, Kim Love, mentioned that she would like to change the committee structure for council. She says that going back to a Committee of the Whole is essential in order to be efficient and effective with everyone’s time.

The first thing Mayor Love mentioned she would take on, should she get re-elected, isn’t something she necessarily wants to tackle but rather something she knows is coming. That of course would be the decision on having retail cannabis stores in the municipality. Although she does mention that staff and council will have to put forward a lot of research before coming to a conclusion (January 22, 2019), she does mention that the municipality isn’t really ready yet.

The Madawaska Valley municipal elections will be held on Monday October 22. Polls close at 8:00 pm. Residents should have received their ballots by mail, if you have not received your mail-in ballot, or want more information on the voting process, please click here.
