The Legion in Barry’s Bay hope to see an increase in membership thanks to Legion Week.

“We’re more community involved now,” Heather Poliquin, the President of the Barry’s Bay Legion, says. She added that this week will be important to show the community what the Legion does. They raise money for minor Hockey and Baseball, the Valley Manor, the library and other charities, Poliquin says. They allow charities and businesses to use their building on 250 John Street often as well.

For the week, they’ll have Euchre on 7 PM, Cribbage at 7 PM on Wednesday and a dinner on Friday night from 5 to 6:30 PM. You have to reserve your spot for the dinner by 6 PM on Tuesday. They’ll end the week with a live band on Friday. All the events happen at the Legion in Barry’s Bay on 250 John Street.

She says her goal is to get more people to join the Legion. “We’re not just there for ex-military we’re there for the community too,” Poliquin says.

Legion Week runs next week from the 17th to Sunday the 23rd.
