It’s been a quiet year for bears in Renfrew County.

That’s according to Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Media Officer Jolanta Kowalski, who says no bears have needed to be relocated yet this summer in the area.

Kowalski says that the Pembroke division of the MNRF has set up traps for bears across the area in trouble-spots of bear activity, but no bears have been trapped or relocated yet in 2018. However, she reminds you that if you come across a bear, it’s best to keep your distance and call 911 if you’re in danger. If you aren’t in danger but see a bear, you can call the bear-wise hotline at 1-877-514-2327.

Killaloe OPP says eleven bear sightings have been reported in the last week including nine in Algonquin Park, one in South Algonquin and one in Madawaska Valley.

The MNRF says you can avoid bears on your property by making sure you don’t leave garbage on your curb, and my making sure your garbage containers are sealed on both your property and campsite.

This is the second year in a row no bears were trapped or relocated within Renfrew County.
