MNRF Relationship With Renfrew County Paramedics Leads To Algonquin Park Rescue

The relationship between Renfrew County Paramedics and the Ministry and Natural Resources and Forestry was all the difference in a rescue effort last weekend.

ORNGE Air Ambulance, Paramedics and the MNRF all responded to a call about an injured hiker in Algonquin Park, and worked together to save the man.

According to Renfrew County Paramedic Chief Michael Nolan, each organization assisted one another with resources.

Nolan says that paramedics, with assistance from the MNRF, portaged the man and paddled him to a nearby float plane, which then took him to an ORNGE Air Ambulance. The man was airlifted to a Pembroke hospital.

Nolan says that the relationship between the MNRF and paramedics isn’t just an important one, but it’s also expected.

Nolan adds that the rescue took nearly three hours to complete as the trail the man was on wasn’t accessible.
