For 15 years, the Avro Arrow has been a landmark in Barry’s Bay.

Because of that, it will be celebrated this weekend. According to Zurakowski Park Committee Chair Virginia Lyon, a band will be performing at the park to celebrate 15 years on Sunday from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.

Over the years, Lyon says the park has undergone some upgrades including the addition of a gazebo and plaques.

Zurakowski Park was built in 2003 to honor former Canadian war pilot and Barry’s Bay resident Jan Zurakowski, who is famously known for being the first person to test fly the Avro Arrow in 1958. The park has historical information and a statue of both the famous jet and Zurakowski.

Zurakowski Park is located downtown Barry’s Bay at the intersection of Opeongo Line and Stafford Street.
